Fulton’s work reflects a fascination with pattern and color – fostered by early training in textile design. The works are acrylic on panel and done in a ‘direct painting’ style. Each stroke is placed to complement the ones already on the surface and the painting is done when the whole surface is covered. Each mark is translucent, and the variations of thin and thick paint at the edges of the individual strokes add depth and complexity. In the moments when the paint is still wet, Fulton will lift out and/or scratch in secondary textures.
